Festival Gudi Padwa 2011 :
Gudi Padwa 2011 will be celebrated on 4th April, 2011 (Monday). It is celebrated on the first day of the month of Chaitra as New Year’s Day by the Maharashtri people. It is the Marathi name for the Hindu holy day of Chaitra Shukla Pratipada. It is celebrated on the first day of the Chaitra month to mark the beginning of the New year according to the lunisolar Hindu calendar.
This festival marks the beginning of New Year in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and parts of Karnataka. It is known as Gudi Padwa in Maharashtra, and Ugadi in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

What is mean by Gudi Padwa 2011?
On this festival you will find a gudi hanging on windows of each marharashtrian people’s home. This Gudi is a bamboo or pole covered with a colourful silk cloth and which is then hoisted by placing a silver or copper pot placed in the inverted position over it. After this at the top of a long bamoo gathi (a type of sweet), neem leaves, a twig of mango leaves are tied.
It is considered as a symbol of victory and hence held high. It is believed as a symbolic representation of Rama’s victory over Ravana.

Gudi Padwa 2011 Celebration :
In Maharashtra usually people make Shrikhand-Poori on this occasion. All family members enjoys this day by wearing new clothes and wishing each other. Women of families draw Rangoli infront of their home. People  eats neem tree leaves at the first day of new year.
